History |
Ebal IV, known as \'Ebal de la Sarraz\', was born before 1156, the son of Ebal III de Grandson, sire de Belmont, and his wife Jordane. He was named as \'sire de Grandson\' in various charters, and as \'seigneur de Grandson et de La Sarraz\', and was the steward of the abbey of the Lake of Joux. An edict of 26 August 1186 from Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa recognised his right to \'build in the territory of Noires-Joux, houses, villages, fortresses and castles, subject only to the direct sovereignty of the empire\'. At this time the senior branch of the house of Grandson established its seat at La Sarraz. In 1325 he made a major donation to the abbey of Sainte Marie-Madeleine du Lac.
With his wife Béatrice de Genève, daughter of Amédée I, comte de Genève, and Béatrix de Domène, he had eight sons and a daughter Jeanne, of whom Girard, Henri I and Pierre I are recorded with progeny. [1] |
