History Sir Ralph Basset, of Drayton, was the son of Ralph Basset, of Drayton, and his wife Margaret.

Sir Ralph married Margaret de Somery, daughter of Roger de Somery and Nichole d\'Aubigny.

With the Battle of Lewes Simon de Montfort had won control of the royal government, but after the defection of several close allies and the escape from captivity of Prince Edward, he found himself on the defensive.

The Battle of Evesham was one of the two main battles of 13th century England\'s Second Barons\' War. It marked the defeat of Simon de Montfort and the rebellious barons by Prince Edward (Edward I) who led the forces of his father, King Henry III. It took place on 4 August 1265, near the town of Evesham, Worcestershire.

Sir Ralph Basset was killed at the battle. His widow Margaret, before 26 January 1270/71, married Ralph de Cromwell. Margaret died after 18 June 1293.   [1
