History Suppo was a Frankish nobleman who held land in the _Regnum Italicum_ in the early ninth century. In 817 he was made count of Brescia, Parma, Piacenza, Modena and Bergamo. He was also made a _missus Dominicus_ (envoy of the ruler) for Italy, along with the Brescian bishop Ratald. In 816 he was instrumental in putting down the rebellion of Bernhard I, king of Italy, against Emperor Louis I \'the Pious\'. In 822, after the abdication and death of Winiges, duke of Spoleto, Suppo was created duke in his place by the grateful emperor and he passed Brescia to his son Mauring. Suppo\'s death on 5 March 824 was recorded by the chronicler Einhard, and Spoleto went to Adelard, count of the palace, who died within five months, leaving the duchy to Mauring. According to the _Annales_ of Einhard and the _Royal Frankish Annals,_ Mauring died within a few days of his succession.

Suppo probably had a Lombard wife, for his second son was named Adelchis.  [1
